Welcome to Shingo’s Japan Guide!
Welcome to Shingo’s Japan Guide!
My name is Shingo Naruyama, and I’m a blogger living in Japan.
I have been running my Japanese blog, Shingo no Tsunaten Blog, for almost two years, writing about travel, saunas, books, work, English learning, and many other things based on my own experiences.
Now, I’ve decided to start a new challenge: sharing my experiences in Japan with people around the world in English!
On Shingo’s Japan Guide, I’ll mainly share travel tips, sauna culture, activities, and other useful information for people who are interested in visiting Japan.
I hope my experiences can help you discover something new about Japan!

What is Shingo’s Japan Guide?
The concept of this site is: “Discover Japan through real experiences, local travel tips, saunas, and activities.”
Shingo’s Japan Guide is the English version of my Japanese blog. However, my goal is not simply to translate all of my Japanese articles into English.
I live in Japan, and many of the places and activities I write about are places I have actually visited and things I have actually experienced.
I want to use those experiences to share practical information about Japan from a local perspective.
There are already many great websites about traveling in Japan, but I hope this blog can offer something a little different: the personal experiences of someone who actually lives here.
What You’ll Find on This Blog
For now, Shingo’s Japan Guide has three main categories. As this blog grows, I may add more categories in the future!
①Travel in Japan
I’ll share places I’ve actually visited in Japan, along with useful travel tips and information.
I hope these articles can help you plan your own trip to Japan.
②Sauna in Japan
I love saunas, and Japan has its own unique sauna and bathing culture.
I’ll introduce Japanese sauna facilities I’ve visited, as well as rules, etiquette, and useful information for first-time visitors.
If you are interested in trying a sauna in Japan, check out my first English article, a guide to sauna and bathing etiquette in Japan!

③Things to Do in Japan
Japan has much more to offer than famous sightseeing spots.
I’ll also share activities and experiences I’ve actually tried, including outdoor activities, unique attractions, and other fun things to do in Japan.
Why I Started an English Blog
There are two things I’ve been doing for a long time: blogging and learning English.
I’ve written nearly 100 articles on my Japanese blog, and I’m also continuing to study English, especially speaking. I sometimes travel abroad for work, and I would also like to work overseas someday.
One day, I thought: “Why not combine blogging and English?” That simple idea became Shingo’s Japan Guide. Writing a blog in English is also a new challenge for me.
Of course, English is not my native language, so creating English content takes more time than writing in Japanese. But I think using English to share something with people around the world is one of the best ways to keep learning.
And most importantly, I think it will be fun!
Not Just Translations of My Japanese Articles
As I mentioned earlier, this site will not simply be an English translation of my Japanese blog.
The information Japanese people need and the information international visitors need can be quite different. For example, Japanese people are usually familiar with the basic rules of Japanese baths and saunas.
But if you are visiting a Japanese sauna for the first time, you may have many questions.
- Can I wear a swimsuit?
- Can I bring a towel into the bath?
- Are tattoos allowed?
- Do I need to shower before entering?
These things may seem obvious to people living in Japan, but they may not be obvious at all to someone visiting for the first time from overseas.
That’s why, even when I use one of my Japanese articles as a starting point, I plan to rewrite and add information that is more useful for international readers.
My goal is to create articles that help you actually enjoy your time in Japan, rather than simply translating Japanese content word for word.
Let’s Explore Japan!
Shingo’s Japan Guide has only just started. There are still many places, saunas, activities, and experiences in Japan that I want to introduce.
I have no idea what this blog will look like a few years from now, but that’s part of the fun. I’ll keep adding articles little by little, based mainly on things I have actually experienced here in Japan.
If you’re planning a trip to Japan—or if you’re simply interested in Japanese travel, culture, saunas, and activities—I hope you’ll enjoy following this blog as it grows.
Let’s explore Japan together!
Welcome to Shingo’s Japan Guide!
